CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
CranioSacral Therapy, sometimes referred to as Cranial Sacral Therapy, is ultra-gentle bodywork that can help to relieve acute or chronic pain, headaches, backaches, nerve compression, muscular and tendon issues due to overuse syndromes, balance issues related to vertigo, and tinnitus. CranioSacral therapy is also known to help relieve anxiety and chronic stress and issues related to a history of trauma.
Your body’s CranioSacral system includes dura mater (the dense connective tissue that surrounds your brain and spine), bones to which it attaches (from your skull down to your tailbone), cerebrospinal fluid, and you fascial (connective tissue) system.
CranioSacral therapy treatments are gentle, light-touch, and non-invasive. It’s unlike chiropractic, massage, physical therapy, energy work, such as Reiki, and other types of bodywork you may have had.
- No physical force is used to move bones or body structures or bones (the cornerstones of chiropractic treatment).
- An ultra-light touch is applied while you are fully clothed; much different from massage.
- Muscles and joints are at rest; unlike physical therapy which exercises or works them.
- You will experience gentle, physical touch; unlike energy work or Reiki.
Other flows and rhythms in the body — including blood flow, lymph, and the rhythm of breathing — are intimately linked and affected by the flow and rhythm of cerebrospinal fluid. Supporting the craniosacral rhythm helps to support your entire body.
